Addiction involves physical and emotional dependence on a chemical substance, and an addict is a person who believes either that he cannot function physically and/or mentally without his addictive substance or that life would be unendurable without it. Alcoholism and drug use are two of the most common addictions in our society.
The alcoholic has formed an association between certain stressful events and the relief imparted by alcohol or drugs. Once any such action is repeated over and over, it becomes a habit, and if the action involves a chemical substance, it ultimately causes an addiction.
Once the addict admits his addiction and asks for help, hypnotherapy will increase his motivation and willingness to attempt change by making him to feel better about himself.
